D too worked with L. Chapter-1.
It was six years ago
when I saw L’ for the first time. He was brought to Wammy’s house, just after a
week when I was brought here. He was an ordinary boy who rolled his eye ball
here and there as he walked in, along with uncle Wammy.
“Here
we go dear, stay
with them and enjoy. I need to do some paperwork and arrangements for
accommodating a new member to the family,” Said uncle Wammy with the
great swiftness
in his voice and then he left L’ in the hall, filled with several
children.
Everyone was busy in their games and toys; however few, including me,
noticed a
new boy in the hall. He unfolded his muffler and walked towards the
wall. He
stood still for a moment and then crouched on the floor with his knees
bent in front of his chest. He exhaled a deep breathe and closed his
eyes.
I was
also new to this orphanage, just a week ago I was brought here, so I didn’t have
any friend, so it felt me more comfortable to befriend him. I went to him and sat
nearby. He didn’t move, I guessed that I’m unnoticed. I lifted my arm to keep
my palm over his shoulder, but before I could do that he murmured, “That
‘castle of cards’ will fall, please stop the boy in green T-shirt.” My arm
paused. I heard him well but I was unable to catch what he meant. I turned my
head and started looking at the hall. With my wide eyes and great curiosity I
began to search the ‘Card castle’ and for the boy in green T-shirt. Suddenly my
sight caught the view of the table on which there was a castle of playing cards,
being built by a girl. I further noticed a boy sitting on the floor at a little
distance away from the table. He was coloring something with a green crayon.
There was nothing unusual about that kid; he was sitting on the floor, focused
in his work, away from table, and had no one near him. On the other hand the
table was at the corner of hall. It was really hard to come up with any kind of
connections between them.
But what’s with this
new guy, what did he meant? I stared the child coloring in his notebook very
seriously. He was rubbing the green crayon very deeply, just like an ordinary
six years old kid. Suddenly he stopped and started looking over here and there.
It seemed as if he was finding something, and then he started crawling. My eyes
rolled towards left to keep match with boy’s movements and finally the crawling
stopped and he picked something. ‘A brown crayon’. At once my eyes caught the
sight of the table over which the ‘Card Castle’ was built. It was just above
the boy. That boy, unknown about the table above him, clutched the crayon and
rose up to stand. I tried to yell ‘stop’, but it was too late. Boy hits the table
with his head, which jerks the table, and hence the castle got destroyed.
I stood still, like a
statue, even worse. Watching the cards fall down. For me, it was not less than
any that how that small kid knew this much. I stared hard at this new boy. He
has entered this hall just few moments ago, sat with his eyes closed and
predicting the fate of card castle.
Somehow, I tried to
gather some voice in my throat and asked, “How do you…” Before I could complete
he paused me and started, “When I entered the hall I noticed several things,
such as, eight boys were playing with the action figures, three girls reading
comics, not actually reading but looking at them, some were coloring it and
many other things, amongst which the ‘Card Castle’ attracted me the most, it
was huge. Just then I noticed that green T-shirt boy using brown and green crayons
alternatively, which meant that he was coloring trees or plants in scenery.
Then, while switching from brown crayon to green, the crayon fell and rolled
towards the table. I think rest of the story is self-explanatory.”
This was the first
deduction that L’ made in front of me.
Who would have known
that small kid, sitting weirdly and rubbing his lips with thumb, would
become ‘Century’s Greatest Detective’?
Next Chapter will be released on 2nd October, 2016.
