PREPARATION FOR HCL DRIVE.
PREPARATION FOR HCL DRIVE STARTED:-
We had one week (hardly) to prepare for this drive. The best part of this drive, for me, was that the recruitment had no aptitude test, as at that point of time I had not completed the Quantitative aptitude by R.S. Aggarwal. (I haven’t completed it yet! LOL!)
I was good (just more than average) in grammar so that round didn’t bother me much. Group discussion was in the motto- “JO HOGA DEKHA JAEGA!”(Let’s see what happens). The thing which worried me was the Technical interview as I am from electrical branch and HCL was not going to ask me about any of the EEE subjects. So I talked to some teachers and seniors who told me to prepare for NETWORKING. Having no other leads and clues I headed with the networking for which I issued Forouzan, 2nd edition from library. I googled: Things a network engineer must know. Then I Searched/read each and every experience on Indiabix. I downloaded three pdfs, each having 100+ questions/answers. All these consulting and downloading took three days. Well, it’s my talent that I took this much time for such a small job, never mind, moving further I kept aside all these things in my phone and started preparing my resume. One more day was spent doing that. Next day, I shared my resume to several people for suggestions. Few modifications were then made, one more day was over. In college, two of our teachers conducted a class related to networking. Now, all I had was two more days, and I guess this made me very nervous and the over excited. This over excitation blocked my mind and hence I started listening to songs when I returned from college. Another day wasted! Now, I had only one option left, take a leave from college for the last preparation day, so that something could be finally prepared. So I checked the time table to ensure if there is some sort of any liability left for tomorrow in the college and soon I realized that tomorrow was my turn to deliver a presentation over my ‘Industrial Training.’ It felt as if my luck was joking with me. In the official what’s app group of our class, I texted- Good evening everyone. Respected Sapna Mam, do we need to give our presentation tomorrow? (Sapna Mam is HOD of EEE and ECE). I waited for her reply and after an hour she texted- Good evening to all. I will reschedule tomorrow’s presentation. Prepare for HCL drive. All the best! Finally, I had one full day to prepare for the drive. With all my hopes boosted I started my preparation. First, I opened the pdf and started reading the questions. Pace was Slow but steady. Then I googled: Abbreviations used in networking and started to learn them too. Well, I didn’t read a single word from that book ‘Forouzan’. It was lying aside in my bag, waiting to be returned back to the library.
At the end of the day I had read some contents from each of the three pdfs (just read them), some abbreviations and about nine to ten experiences.
I took a print out of my resume and photocopied all my documents. Ironed my uniform, bought chips and biscuits, prepared a portfolio and then I said to myself- I’ll go to bed as early as possible. Phone and internet replied- Challenge accepted. I finally slept at 1 O’ clock. (Phone and internet won!)
ON THE DAY OF DRIVE:-
In the morning I woke up early, thanks to my insomniac nature, bathed and dressed myself well. I was very nervous, so I started to roam around in the house, listened some songs, but still I wasn’t able to calm myself. Finally it was 8 O’ clock when I started to pack my bag and rechecked my portfolio. The rechecking told me that I haven’t stapled my resume and have punched some documents upside down. My inner self laughed at me. It said- JAB KISMAT HI HO FUDDU TOH KYA KREGA BOURNVITA WALA DHUDHU.
I started looking for the stapler and punch press. After twenty minutes of amateur searching I found none of them. I again used the motto: - “JO HOGA DEKHA JAEGA!”(Let’s see what happens). It was already twenty past eight when I came out of the building and headed for an auto. I had to run because 8:45 AM was the time for the HCL drive. Finally at 8:47 AM (SHARP) I was at the college canteen buying chewing gum. I’ve read it somewhere that chewing something keeps your mind busy so it is able to avoid unnecessary anxiety and nervousness. So, I experimented this today. I phone called one of my colleagues, after all I didn’t want to go alone in the seminar hall. After some beeps and rings, his mother answers the phone- HELLO. And then she updates me that he is taking a shower. WHAT THE HELL! Its 8:50 AM he is still taking shower. I got more disturbed. However ‘best luck’ wishes from my best friend, standing by my side worked at the moment.
I finally entered the seminar hall with my two other colleagues who approached there after two minutes. They pointed out that my beard has grown dense and I should go and get it trimmed. I convinced them and started to enter in the hall and saw our CRC department head scolding and sending a boy out, reason being his unmanaged beard. I avoided myself to come in front of his eyes and entered the room.
Room was already filled more than half. Nervousness added on seeing this much crowd. I grabbed a seat, pulled out the chewing gum from the packet, put it inside my mouth and started chewing it.
